Artist's
Statement:
I have been exploring the cultural roots and contemporary
imagery of the fiber art movement that evolved from the
study of some aspects of textile traditions. These
traditions, which encompass an extraordinary variety of
materials, processes and most importantly visual messages,
are integrated with my interests in feminist concerns,
current issues in the arts and an abiding love for ethnic
and tribal textiles. An artist is concerned mainly with the
visual message, that culminating image - the medium is
usually irrelevant.
Professor Westfall's courses included the study of
on-loom (including computer jacquard), off-loom, surface
design from painted paper to completed project, textile
history and papermaking.
Carol Westfall retired from University teaching in July
of 2002. Her areas of expertise and research can be seen in
her Portfolio below. |
